IIAC is a member-based professional association with 180 members representing a majority of IIROC registered organizations (IIROC is the national self regulatory organization which oversees all investment dealers and trading activity on debt and equity marketplaces in Canada).

IIAC advances the growth and development of the Canadian investment industry, acting as a strong, proactive voice to represent the interests of our members and the investing public.

IIAC Joins the Industry in Celebrating BMO Nesbitt Burns’ Landmark 100th Anniversary

On May 9, 2012, BMO Nesbitt Burns Wednesday celebrated its 100th anniversary, a major milestone spanning the Great Depression, two World Wars and various market conditions.

Investment firm Nesbitt Thomson was established in May 9, 1912 with the objective of assisting the development of electric utilities and, during the First World War, focused on raising money for the war effort through the issuance of Victory Bonds. The company grew to become a household name and, in 1987, was acquired by BMO Financial Group, the first bank/broker merger in the Canadian financial services sector.

In 1994, the firm joined forces with Burns Fry Ltd. to create BMO Nesbitt Burns.

“This is a truly momentous occasion that underscores the contributions of Canada’s investment industry to capital markets and the welfare of the investors,” said Ian Russell, IIAC’s President and CEO. “This is a heritage we can all be proud of.”

Joint IIROC-IIAC CRM Events Countrywide

IIROC and IIAC are hosting a cross-country series of events to address requirements and assist members with the implementation of the Client Relationship Model (CRM), which was approved by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) on March 22, 2012. Panel discussions or roundtables, including industry representatives, on the four aspects of the CRM will be offered, with one or more of the sessions expected to be recorded for release as a webcast for those unable to attend.
